What support do frontline workers want? A qualitative study of health and social care workers' experiences and views of psychosocial support during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • This research explores UK frontline health and social care workers' own experiences and views of psychosocial support during the pandemic. Interviews with 25 front line workers from a variety of professional groups working in health and social care settings across the UK were carried out. Peer support was many workers' first line of support but could also be experienced as a burden. Workers were ambivalent about support shown by organisations, media and the public. Whilst workers valued psychological support services, there were many disparities in provision and barriers to access.

  • Discovery, and its insurance partners, offer wellness participants the opportunity to join a traditional wellness incentive programme, Vitality Active Rewards, in which an Apple Watch is provided as an incentive up front and repayment is dependent on level of activity.
  • Researchers found that this loss-framed incentive is associated with higher physical activity levels, and that these associations persist over time.

  • Google Surveys was used to investigate the ways wearable fitness trackers can positively impact employee productivity, work-life balance, and health. 
  • Method: 10 questions from 350 participants (all US based)
  • Some key findings:
    • Nearly two-thirds of respondents believe their wearable makes them more active.
    • The majority of respondents use their wearable to track sleep
    • More than half of respondents use their wearable to track steps.
    • More than 40 percent of respondents use their wearable to track heart rate.
    • Less than half of participants use their wearable to track calories on a regular basis.
    • More than half of respondents are open to using their wearable as part of a workplace health incentive program
