Patient smartphone app pilots in London

NHS England picks Babylon for flagship patient app pilot

  • NHS England has picked two private digital services to pilot a new universal NHS Online patient app that provides access to health records, NHS 111 and privacy preferences through their smartphones.
  • Babylon Health’s technology will support one of the pilots in north central London. The pilot is expected to start by the end of the year.
  • A second NHS Online pilot will begin on 15 November with 240,000 patients in Bexley, south east London, using eConsult, a competing app developed and promoted by GPs involved in the Hurley Group

  • All GP practices in England are, from April 2016, expected to have in place a patient participation group (PPG) as part of meeting the GP contract. 
  • This new resource guide will help all GP practice PPGs work effectively. 
  • Building Better Participation is a framework of four inter-linking Areas:
    • Getting PPGs in place
    • Helping PPGs work well
    • Knowing and working with patients
    • Influencing beyond the GP practice
    • Making online GP services work well for patients 
  • Within each area there are a set of goals to help the PPG and its practice focus on particular pieces of activity. Each Area is supported by a wide-ranging set of web-based resources
