- On 1 April 2013, NHS England became responsible for administering the application process for patients seeking funding for healthcare in other European countries (‘cross border healthcare’). This role was previously undertaken by individual PCTs on behalf of their local populations.
- This document gives an outline of the associated roles and responsibilities of NHS England, CCGs and CSUs and summary of the requirements of the EU Directive on cross border healthcare, which becomes UK law in October 2013.

- Where the commissioner has a policy on a treatment or service, publish a summary of what this means for patient entitlements "in a format that is understandable to patients."
