- Report commissioned by the Department of Health to investigate the costs of primary healthcare for homeless people as part of the Inclusion Health Programme work to understand and address the health needs of the most excluded.
- Analysis of five case studies showed that: the costs of treatment for people over a year ranged from £6,468 to £44,612 per person. This compares with an estimated £1,600 per person full annual cost of healthcare for the general population, ranging from around £700 for those under 44 to over £6,000 for the very elderly.
- "Better knowledge about how homeless people use primary healthcare services is needed to ensure they receive the best treatment possible and valuable NHS resources are used to best effect."
