Simon Stevens speech to NHS Confederation Conference 2016

Simon Stevens speech to NHS Confederation Conference 20 June 2016
  • Simon Stevens speech covers current pressures, changing circumstances, NHS funding and action during 2016, Sustainability and transformation plans, workforce issues and innovation across the NHS
  • When discussing NHS funding Mr Stevens emphasises the three important consequences of the Spending Review - the capital is incredibly tight, a lot of the improvement we want to see in new funding programmes is back-ended towards the 2019, 2020 period and the consequence of the U-shaped funding settlement is that 2016/17 is the pivotal year.
  • Tasks for the year include a set of practical things required to stabilise finance and operational performance, delivery on some of the key national priorities and strategies NHS England has laid out as "mission critical" (including cancer, mental health, urgent and emergency care, learning disabilities and GP services) and delivering Sustainability and Transformation Plans across the country.
