Accessible Information Standard
NHS England 24 June 2015
  • The new ‘accessible information standard’ was approved by the Standardisation Committee for Care Information (SCCI) and is known officially as SCCI1605 Accessible Information.
  • The accessible information standard tells organisations how they should ensure that disabled patients / service users and, where appropriate, carers and parents, receive information in formats that they can understand, and that they receive appropriate support to help them to communicate.
  • By 1 September 2015 all organisations that provide NHS or publicly funded adult social care must have begun to prepare for implementation of the Accessible Information Standard and by 1 April 2016 all organisations that provide NHS or publicly funded adult social care must identify and record information and communication needs with service users.
  • Implementation Guidance and supporting documents are available.
