Acute care models - learning from other countries

Exploring international acute care models
Monitor 4 December 2014
  • Monitor has looked at international acute service line models to help inform the thinking on potential new models of acute care in the NHS.
  • They identified three individual service models that could offer benefits if used more widely by the NHS:
    • the value of ‘risk tiering’ for maternity and paediatric services;
    • the importance of technology, particularly to deliver care remotely; and
    • the role out-of-hours care delivered by GPs can play in providing urgent care.
