MyNHS – Plans for expansion

  • Outlines current plans for how the information on MyNHS will be expanded and improved between 2015 and 2017.
  • Short term plans include 
    • CCGs / GPs - introduction of an initial set of indicators for CCGs for five population groups- frail elderly; people with long term conditions; the generally well; children and maternity and mental health (expected May 2015). Subsequent plans are for 15-20 indicators per population group, health promotion and disease prevention indicators, and work towards a combined measure for outcomes and efficiency. 
      • (Note - No mention of Friends and Family Test in General Practice.)
    • Health & Wellbeing Boards - a new dashboard, taking pre-published data from the PHOF, ASCOF and Clinical Commissioning Groups Outcome Indicator Set will present this information in one place for the first time (expected March 2015).
    • Integration - new scorecard covering indicators for: Total non-elective admissions into hospital; Permanent admissions of older people to residential care; Effectiveness of reablement / rehabilitation services; Delayed transfers of care from hospital (expected March 2015).

  • The MyNHS website http://www.nhs.uk/mynhs was formally launched today by Jeremy Hunt.
  • In response to the Francis Report, this new site on NHS Choices allows people can compare the performance of their local NHS hospital, their care services and their local authority with up-to-date information. 
  • The site includes data about hospitals, adult social care services, public health services, public health outcomes, mental health hospitals and consultant performance. Data relating to General practice will be available soon.

  • This NHS Choices website will link to existing data that has already been published on patient safety, efficiency, quality, public health, social care commissioning and hospital food standards.

Accountability data on NHS Choices

Health service accountability data now available on NHS Choices
  • Performance data relating to GPs, hospitals, local authorities and CCGs is now available through a single page on NHS Choices allowing benchmarking across organisations.
  • Data includes Patient experience, Patient safety, Patient outcomes
  • Most of the 201 datasets were previously available on the NHS Choices site, apart from 40 indicators about GP practice standards and performance, used by the NHS to assess variation among practices.

  • The ASCOF measures how well care and support services achieve the outcomes that matter most to people. It aims to supports councils to improve the quality of care and support services they provide; give a national overview of adult social care outcomes in 2012 to 2013; and looks at how the framework will be developed in future.

  • A research programme from the Nuffield Trust and Health Foundation providing independent scrutiny into how the quality of health and social care is changing over time  to both augment and inform the work of other statutory national bodies and initiatives.
  • The work will include
    • QualityWatch indicators - using a set of nearly 150 indicators we will explore changes in the quality of health and social care over time.
    • Focus on’ reports - in-depth analysis of a number of key topics. Reports on Hip fracture and preventable admissions have already been published (Oct 2013).
