NHS England 31 July 2014
- The NHS Equality and Diversity Council has announced action to ensure employees from black and ethnic minority (BME) backgrounds have equal access to career opportunities and fair treatment in the workplace.
- The workforce race equality standard would require organisations demonstrate progress against a number of indicators of workforce equality, including a specific indicator to address the low levels of BME Board representation.
- NHS England has agreed to consult on incorporating the new standard and Equality Delivery System (EDS2) toolkit for the first time in the 2015/16 standard NHS contract.
- The proposal would be applicable to providers, and extended to CCGs through the annual CCG assurance process.
