Virtual GP by phone

Babylon app puts a GP in your pocket
Wired.co.uk, 28 April 2014
  • Babylon is a subscription health service that lets you book virtual GP consultations with professional physicians, monitor symptoms and receive prescriptions. Designed to make booking healthcare appointments as simple as "booking a Hailo cab", Babylon gives patients access to doctors 12 hours a day, six days a week for £7.99 per month.
  • Using an app (iPhone or Android), patients can either send a simple text query or photo to be looked at by a doctor or nurse, or they can book a secure video or face-to-face consultation.
  • Patients can get instant referrals to either specialists in the Babylon system or to BUPA consultants if a physical consultation is needed. If you need a blood test, X-ray or scan, Babylon provides a way of booking that at a nearby partner facility or, if possible, can send a diagnostic kit. As soon as the consultation is over, a prescription can be sent either to a mobile, to home, in the post or to a nearby pharmacy.
  • Babylon is the first service of its kind to be registered with the Care Quality Commission
