Alternatives to face-to-face consultations in primary care

Alternatives to face-to-face consultations in primary care
Centre for Academic Medicine, University of Bristol, January 2017
  • Many general practices are considering offering alternatives to face-to-face consultations. These include electronic consultations, video, and greater use of telephone consultations and email. This website describes what we have learnt from research with practices using these alternatives and gives you some things to consider before embarking on this new way of working.
  • The guidance is aimed at practitioners, commissioners and healthcare managers who might be considering implementing an alternative to a face to face consultation.
  • This guidance will not be updated, and represents understanding in January 2017.
