  • An examination UK’s public finances over the longer term
  • Population ageing will put upward pressure on public spending
    • health spending rises from 6.8 per cent of GDP in 2016-17 to 9.1 per cent of GDP in 2061-62, rising smoothly as the population ages. 
    • social care costs rise from 1.1 per cent of GDP in 2016-17 to 2 per cent of GDP in 2061-62.
    • Annex B: discusses historic trends in health care productivity and morbidity, and the potential implications for future health spending.
